Mustangs Take Out 10th Ranked Burlington

Hempstead returned to the state play-offs with a convincing 28-14 win over a powerful 7-2 Burlington team. In a road trip to remember, the Mustangs traveled 3 hours to defeat the highly ranked MAC opponent and make their 3rd trip to state under Head Coach Mark Ehlers. The Mustangs took control early with great defense and a big play by Alex Brown and a huge touchdown pass from Jordan Decker to Riley Anderson to end the half. Josh Lenz then took over the second half with his rushing and defensive prowlness. The senior Iowa State recruit was spectacular on both sides of the ball. Linemen Tyler Bellows and Andrew Roos controlled the vastly improved defense line while linebackers Brock Haas, Dillon Hefel and Matt Knabel continued their consistent linebacker play. Corners TJ Houselog and Brad Duwe were solid through out the night. Offensively the Mustangs moved the ball at will led by senior center John Hefel and the big red head Lucas Link. The "O" was able to control the ball and collect over 400 yards against the top ranked MAC defense. Excellent game plans were designed by Coach Haas, Coach Oswald, Coach Kuhle and Coach Bahl. Next up is power house Cedar Rapids Washington on Monday night at Dalzell Field.

Mustangs Battle City High

The 3rd ranked Little Hawks defeated the Mustangs 34-21 in a game closer than the score showed. City ran an excellent fake punt to score it's first TD and later punched in another score at half to lead 14-0. Hempstead countered with a touchdown by Josh Lenz but couldn't stop the Little Hawks in their next possession. City High was led by star QB A.J. Derby who proved how good he is by playing an excellent all around game. The Mustangs also received a rushing TD by Brock Haas and a Brad Duwe TD catch from Matt Ehlers. Kicker Chris Huss was 3 for 3 for extra points. Mustangs will now battle Senior for the City Championship.
