Continue To Battle
The Mustangs are without a win, but they continue to work hard and improve. The schedule has been rough, but the team will not use that as an excuse. The new goal is to win these next 5 games and achieve a play-off birth. Next up is a talented Wahlert team. The Mustangs will be on the road for this key game and will have to stop a high powered offense. After that, the team will host Waterloo West in the Homecoming game.

Helping Hand
The Mustang varsity players helped out St. Mark Community Center this week. Players moved a huge amount of school supplies that will be going out to students of need in our area. The Apples program has become an important tradition that helps hundreds of kids.
310 Athletes Attend Camp
It was a hot week, but you couldn't tell on the Hempstead football fields where 310 players enjoyed camp. The high schoolers were excellent in helping the younger players learn about the game, even after they had their own camp in the morning. Thanks also to the coaches and trainers who volunteered their time to the players. I'm sure you will see the young players wearing their new camp shirts and athletic backpack they received this week. Awards Time
Two Mustangs were awarded Academic All-State for 2010. Brad Duwe and Adam Kennedy received this prestigious award from the Iowa Football Coaches Association. Both deserved this award for their excellent work in the classroom and on the field. In other news, Mitch Berendes and Kyle Wiest were picked to play in the Iowa Shrine Bowl All-Star Game. The summer game is a fund raiser for Shriner's Hospitals across the country and features talented athletes from around the state. Hempstead has now had 11 consecutive Academic All-State and Shrine Bowl players.
