With family and friends looking on, Josh Lenz signed his National Letter of Intent to play football for Iowa State University. The day was very exciting for the 3 sport star and he was very appreciative of all the support he has been given by the Hempstead community. Sharing in the joy was his proud parents and his very excited little brother. Josh will also be preparing for the Iowa Shrine Bowl game in July. What an exciting time for Josh and his family!

Hempstead capped off an excellent season by having six players named to the all-conference teams. First teamers were seniors Josh Lenz and Riley Anderson along with junior Brock Haas. Second team players were Andrew Roos, John Hefel and Tyler Bellows. Honorable Mention players named are Rob Murphy, Lucas Link, Matt Knabel, Shawn McGinnis and Chris Huss. Also, Andrew Roos and Matt Knabel captured prestigious academic awards for the Mustangs.

All the Mustangs played and enjoyed the big win over their city rivals.Scoring for the team was Josh Lenz, Brock Haas, Riley Anderson, Shawn McGinnis and Doug Wagner. Matt Ehlers and Jordan Decker both threw TD passes. All parts were working for the Stangs as they jumped out with a huge 34 point second quarter. Next up for the Mustangs is CR Xavier.

Even the weather couldn't stop the Stangs from winning their third straight game 22-6. The rain came down the entire game as Josh Lenz, Dillon Hefel and Riley Anderson scored touchdowns.

Chris Huss added 2 extra points and Matt Ehlers dived into the endzone for a two point conversion. Lenz had another fine game with 176 yards rushing. Big John Hefel had an excellent game blocking at his center position.
The Mustang football team was victorious over Wahlert in a hard hitting game at the Rock Bowl in front of 4,000 fans. The Mustangs were led by Josh Lenz with two touchdowns. Jordan Decker also scored and Brock Haas had over 100 yards rushing for the offense. John Hefel and Andrew Roos were important blockers for the offense.

24 players and coaches traveled to Elkader, Iowa to help clean up after flooding. The trip was eye opening for all involved and proved to be a learning experience for everyone. Elkader was a friendly town that was very appreciative of the help given by the team. Jobs included mud clean up, fence fixing, trash and tree removal, drywall and insulation removal an other tasks that were given to us by the volunteer coordinator. I am very proud of how the team stepped up to help people in need.

Luke had an excellent year at receiver and corner for the Mustangs and was an All-Conference M.V.C. player. Luke is excited about playing college football at Ellsworth. Good luck Luke!
Hempstead football is lucky to be surrounded by many quality volunteers. Casey Olmstead and Shelby Avenarius are excellent student managers who contribute many hours helping our team. Thank you for being a part of our Mustang family.
Andrew Roos and Matt Knabel have been named captains for the 2008 season. More captains can be added as we work towards the fall season.
